Notify.domains vs Namecheap Market for a Name You Want
Founder, Notify.domains · ex-GoDaddy Director of Education · founder, DomainSherpa & DNAcademy
Last updated
Namecheap Market is where you bid, once the name is listed there. Favorites, SMS, email, the Auctions app, and the Auctions API are built for that moment: outbid, ending soon, won. They are not a watch on a taken name that has not listed yet.
Notify.domains watches the name before it shows up, and after it shows up somewhere else. Namecheap Market, Spaceship, GoDaddy, Sedo, Atom, and the other venues we cover are on the same watch. We notify. We do not bid. When the name is on Namecheap Market and you are ready, you bid there.

Which one to use
Choose Namecheap Market if
The name is listed there now and you want outbid alerts, proxy bidding, and an API while you bid. Or you want to send a binding offer today, through DomainAgents on an unlisted name or through Sedo on a name the owner already listed.
Those are purchase tools. They are good at the purchase.
Choose Notify.domains if
The name is not listed anywhere yet, and you want to know which venue it lands on when it is. You also want registry and website changes, which no Market alert carries.
When the alert says Namecheap, you open Namecheap and bid. The subscription, the balance, and the proxy bid stay in your Namecheap account.
Namecheap Market and Notify.domains, feature by feature
Namecheap's auctions bidding guide was re-read on 29 September 2026. Make Offer routing (DomainAgents or Sedo) was last checked in August 2026. Confirm the current minimum and any buyer fee at Namecheap checkout. We do not quote a buyer premium here.

How Notify.domains watches a taken name
Add the name before it lists
Any of the 2,205 TLDs. You do not need a Namecheap Market subscription to start the watch, and you do not need to own the name.
We watch it throughout the day
Registry, website, and aftermarket. 170+ attributes, including Namecheap and Spaceship listings plus the auction houses Namecheap Market does not cover.
You bid at Namecheap when it is listed there
The alert names the venue. Proxy bidding, SMS, and the API stay in your Namecheap account. We do not bid, and we do not send the offer.
What Namecheap domain monitoring covers
Namecheap does not sell a product called domain monitoring for a name you do not own. What it sells, inside Market, is a watch on auctions you have already found. The bidding guide calls it Mark as Favorite. Saved auctions live on the Favorites tab. That is a watchlist, for Market listings.
SMS, if you opt in per auction, fires when a domain you won is ready to pay for, when you are outbid, or when an auction you care about is about to end. Email and the Auctions app push the same kinds of events. The app also has proxy bidding. To bid at all you need a Namecheap account, a verified phone, a Market subscription of $5 a year (non-refundable, renews unless you turn that off), and at least $100 in the account. A new user needs $1,000 in the account to bid $10,000 or more. If you win, you pay within 72 hours or the name goes back up.
The Auctions API and webhooks are for people running a lot of bids. Namecheap describes them as a way to track auctions and to hear about events such as an outbid or an auction ending. You generate the key on the Market dashboard. That API watches Namecheap Market. It does not watch GoDaddy Auctions or Sedo.
Before the name is listed
Most of the wait happens before a Favorite star exists. The name is registered at some registrar. It might expire into Namecheap Market, or into GoDaddy Auctions, or into SnapNames and NameJet, or into Dynadot, depending on who the registrar partners with. Namecheap names go to Namecheap Market. A name registered at Network Solutions does not. Domain auctions explained walks through why the venue changes with the registrar.
While you wait, the useful changes are often small. The registry status moves. The certificate lapses. A for-sale page appears. A price changes on a marketplace you were not refreshing. Favorites only exist once a Market listing does, so those earlier changes sit outside that feature.
Sellers also list one name in more than one place, at more than one price. And once a live expiry auction starts, an older Buy Now on a marketplace is usually a leftover. It will not be honored. See how a name you already want shows up on resale marketplaces.
Make Offer is a different job
Namecheap's Make Offer button is not a watch. It is a way to open a negotiation today. As of our August 2026 check, an unlisted name routes to DomainAgents: about a $20 credit, a $199 minimum offer, binding for 14 days. A name the owner has already listed routes to Sedo at the seller's minimum. One live example that month was a $2,500 Sedo minimum. Confirm the current floor on the button before you submit. An offer is a commitment, paid up front, and it is a fine tool when you already know you want to write the check.
Notify.domains does not send that offer. We tell you the name is listed, where, and at what price, so you can decide whether DomainAgents, Sedo, or a direct note is the right next step. DomainAgents and Sedo are doing their own job. We are not in competition with a broker.
Namecheap is a registrar first. Market alerts are one feature, scoped to inventory Namecheap can sell you. We do the watch, across venues, throughout the day. How the four kinds of domain monitoring differ is the wider page. This one is only Namecheap.

All of the above on one watch: registration data, website health, auctions, marketplaces, and drop timing, at 30+ checks a day per domain.
Aftermarkets
Most good names are for sale somewhere at some price. We watch the resale marketplaces for listings and price moves, so you buy on a dip instead of at full ask.
Auction Platforms
Expiring domains are sold at auction long before they drop, and each registrar uses a different venue. We watch them all so you do not have to guess which one to check.
