Dynadot's Watch List is the best registrar watch we know of. It is free with any Dynadot account. It can track a name registered anywhere. Dynadot's own page says it notifies you when a watched name goes from registered to unregistered, from unregistered to registered, enters the Dynadot Marketplace, or enters Expired Domain Auctions or becomes available to backorder. It shows the expiration date, the nameserver, the auction, and the time left. It does not bid or reserve the name.

That is a real acquisition tool, inside Dynadot's pool. It is not a watch on GoDaddy Auctions, Sedo, SnapNames, or a marketplace Dynadot does not carry. Notify.domains watches the name wherever it surfaces, including at Dynadot. Many people run both. We notify. We do not backorder or bid for you. Dynadot does.

Which one to use

Choose Dynadot if

The name is registered at Dynadot, NameSilo, or Porkbun, or you plan to buy through Dynadot anyway. The free Watch List plus auto-backorder is the strongest registrar watch in this set, inside that pool.

Dynadot will request the backorder and run the auction. We will not. That is a reason to keep Dynadot, not a gap to apologize for.

Choose Notify.domains if

You do not know which registrar the owner will let the name expire at. The owner might list it on a marketplace Dynadot does not carry. Or you want the website and DNS layer that shows the owner drifting before any status flips.

Use both when the name might pass through Dynadot and might not. Keep Dynadot's auto-backorder on for the Dynadot pool. Let Notify.domains watch everything that will surface somewhere else.

Dynadot Watch List and Notify.domains, feature by feature

Dynadot's Watch List page and the auto-backorder setting were re-read on 29 September 2026. Backorder pricing (free to request, pay if Dynadot catches the name) was last checked on 26 September 2026. Dynadot does not publish how often the Watch List checks a name.

How Notify.domains watches a taken name

1

Add the name once

Any of the 2,205 TLDs. You can keep it on Dynadot's Watch List at the same time. The two watches do not conflict.

2

We watch it throughout the day

Registry, website, and aftermarket. 170+ attributes, including Dynadot Auction and Dynadot Market plus the venues outside that pool.

3

You buy at Dynadot when that is the venue

If the alert names Dynadot, you bid or backorder in your Dynadot account. We do not place the bid or the backorder.

What the Dynadot watchlist actually alerts on

Add a name under Domain Monitoring, then Watchlist. You can also star a listing while you browse Dynadot's aftermarket, including marketplace, expired auctions, backorders, and closeouts. Dynadot's page is clear that the list notifies you. It does not register the domain, place a bid, or reserve it.

A separate switch does the buying. In Watchlist settings, "Automatically request backorder on watchlist domains" requests a backorder when an active watchlist name becomes eligible. Dynadot's help page, updated 26 August 2026, says you can cancel that request only when at least 24 hours remain before the drop. Backorder requests are free. You pay if Dynadot catches the name. Several requests on the same name become a backorder auction. That pricing was last checked on Dynadot's backorder page on 26 September 2026.

For a name already listed on Dynadot Market, you can set a price threshold and hear when the price drops below it. Notification types include a watch reminder, a price change, auction ending, outbid, and won, plus expiry mail for names in your own account. Dynadot does not publish how often the Watch List itself checks a name, so this page does not state one.

Names that expire into Dynadot's pool

Expired names go where the registrar sends them. Dynadot, NameSilo, and Porkbun names generally land in Dynadot's auction pool, and you can often bid on that same listing from any of those three. Porkbun used to send expired inventory to GoDaddy Auctions. It moved. A few extensions may still go to GoDaddy Auctions, so a watch set up under the old path now points at the wrong house. The live listing wins.

GoDaddy, Name.com, and eNom names go to GoDaddy Auctions. Network Solutions and Bluehost names go to SnapNames and NameJet. Namecheap names go to Namecheap Market. None of those paths are what the Dynadot Watch List is built to announce. How domain drops work is the page for the lifecycle, and domain auction alerts is the page for the venue list.

A buy-now price on a marketplace can be a leftover once a live auction starts. The old price is usually not honored. The alert should say which listing is the one you can act on.

Use both

This is the comparison where "use both" is the ordinary answer. Dynadot is a partner we watch and send buyers to. Dynadot Auction and Dynadot Market both show up on the domain, with a link to act at Dynadot. Their Watch List is free, and their backorder actually tries to catch the name. Ours does not.

What you add with Notify.domains is everything outside that pool, checked throughout the day: the other auction houses, the other marketplaces, price changes with the percent, and the website and DNS signals that often move first. Registrars do a hundred things well. Watching a name that lives in someone else's account, at every venue, is the one thing we do.

If you are deciding which kind of tool you even need, start with how the four kinds of domain monitoring differ. This page is only the Dynadot case.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Any Dynadot account can use it, including a free account, and it can watch names registered at other registrars. That is the primary use Dynadot describes: names you want to acquire, not only names you already own.
Dynadot says it notifies you when a watched name goes from registered to unregistered or the reverse, enters the Dynadot Marketplace, or enters Expired Domain Auctions or becomes available to backorder. The list also displays expiration date, nameserver, auction, and time left. It does not bid or reserve the name. A separate setting can request a backorder on those names.
Not on the pages we read. The Watch List is built around Dynadot's marketplace, auctions, and backorders. GoDaddy Auctions, Sedo, SnapNames, NameJet, and the other houses are outside that product. Notify.domains watches those, and watches Dynadot too.
Many people do. Keep Dynadot's auto-backorder on for names in the Dynadot, NameSilo, and Porkbun pool, because Dynadot can actually request the backorder. Use Notify.domains for everything that will surface somewhere else, and for the website and DNS signals Dynadot's list does not advertise.
Yes, on both products. Dynadot says that is the point of the Watch List. It is the point of Notify.domains too. The signals we use are public: registry records, DNS, the website and its certificate, and public listings. You do not hand us a registrar login.
No. Dynadot can. We tell you the window is open, which drop-catch services cover the extension, and which venue the name just hit. You place the backorder or the bid in your own account. See how backorders work.
On Notify.domains, throughout the day, every day. You normally hear the same day a listing appears or a status you can act on changes. Dynadot does not publish a check frequency for the Watch List. We do not state one.
At the job of watching one name across every venue, yes, because that is the only job we do. At the job of backordering a name inside Dynadot's pool, Dynadot is the one that can catch it, and the Watch List is free. The honest setup for a serious name in that pool is both.
$24 a year for your first domain, after a 7-day trial with no credit card. One domain on the trial. Dynadot's Watch List stays free either way. You are paying for the venues and the website layer the Watch List is not built to cover.
