Cloudflare Registrar sells and renews standard domains at registry cost. It is a good place to keep names you already own. Cloudflare Brand Protection watches newly registered lookalikes of a brand you own. Neither product is a watch on one specific taken name you hope to buy, and Cloudflare does not claim otherwise.

Notify.domains is that watch. One name, the registry, the website, and the aftermarket, throughout the day, until the name is listed, auctioned, or heading toward a drop. We notify. We do not register it for you when it deletes, and we do not replace Brand Protection.

Which one to use

Choose Cloudflare if

You own the names and want at-cost renewals without an upsell, or you run a brand and need lookalike detection in a security workflow. Brand Protection is built for typos, homoglyphs, and logo matches on names other people just registered.

That is a security job. It is a good one. It answers "who is impersonating us," not "when can I buy this exact name."

Choose Notify.domains if

You want one specific taken name, and you need to know when and where it becomes buyable. Auction, marketplace, expiry, website. The alert names the venue. You buy there, in your own account.

Cloudflare and Notify.domains, feature by feature

Cloudflare's Brand Protection docs were re-read on 29 September 2026. Cloudflare marks that page as last updated 16 June 2026. Registrar lifecycle pages were last checked on 26 September 2026. Do not treat a plan name as a price. Confirm inclusion in your Cloudflare plan.

How Notify.domains watches a taken name

1

Add the exact name

Any of the 2,205 TLDs, including extensions Cloudflare Registrar does not sell. You do not move the DNS to us.

2

We watch it throughout the day

Registry, website, and aftermarket. 170+ attributes on that name: auctions, listings, price changes, and the site signals that show up before a status flips.

3

You buy it where it surfaces

The alert names the venue and the next step. We do not register the name when it drops, and we do not file an abuse report. Brand Protection remains the right tool for lookalikes.

What Cloudflare Registrar is for

Registrar is an at-cost renewal and registration product. Auto-renew is on by default. The first renewal attempt is about 30 days before expiry, with retries. Expiration notices go out on a schedule Cloudflare publishes: monthly, weekly, daily in the last seven days, the day after expiry, and again later in the redemption window. There is a redemption period of about 30 days. Those facts were last checked on 26 September 2026.

Cloudflare's troubleshooting page is plain about names you do not control. A name in redemption has to be restored at its current registrar. A name in pending delete is not transferable and not recoverable. After it deletes, anyone can register it. Cloudflare does not sell auctions, backorders, brokerage, or an aftermarket. It does not pretend to.

A few limits matter if you were hoping to park the name there later. The domain has to use Cloudflare as its authoritative DNS. Non-Latin names are not supported. Only a subset of TLDs is supported, and the registrar API supports fewer than the dashboard. As of 26 September 2026 the API was still in beta: it can check and register standard names, it rejects premium names, and renewals, transfers, and contact updates were not in the API yet. There is a cap of 500 domains per account. We are not quoting a TLD count. Cloudflare's list is the source.

Brand Protection is a different job

People search "Cloudflare domain monitoring" and land on Brand Protection, because that is the Cloudflare product with the word monitoring on it. It watches newly registered domains for strings that sit close to a brand you own. Character distance runs from 0 to 3. A phrase shorter than five characters is exact match only. Logo search is separate, and logo match alerts are an Enterprise feature. Alerts and the digest are included with Professional plans or higher. You can add email or a webhook. Self-serve customers can buy more capacity. Use is limited to brands you own or are allowed to protect.

When a match uses Cloudflare Registrar or Cloudflare's network, you can file an abuse report in the dashboard. When it does not, the tool drafts a cease-and-desist letter. Cloudflare says it does not represent you and does not give legal advice. That is enforcement help. It is not an acquisition watch, and a lookalike alert will not tell you that the exact name you want just listed on Sedo.

Notify.domains does not discover lookalikes for you. You add the variants you care about, and we watch each one the way we watch any other name: expiry, listings, auctions, website. Brand domain monitoring is the explainer, and brand protection monitoring is the solution page. Use Cloudflare to find the lookalikes. Use us to watch the specific names, including the canonical one you hope to buy.

One taken name is a third job

The job on this page is narrower than both Cloudflare products. You already know the name. Someone else owns it. You need the day it is listed, the day it enters an auction, and the weeks before that when the website starts to look abandoned. Cloudflare Registrar will not see it, because the name is not in your account. Brand Protection will not see it, unless a stranger registers a lookalike, which is a different event.

Where the name goes when it expires depends on the current registrar, not on Cloudflare. GoDaddy names go to GoDaddy Auctions. Network Solutions and Bluehost names go to SnapNames and NameJet. Dynadot, NameSilo, and Porkbun names generally go to Dynadot. What happens when a domain expires is the lifecycle. Drop-catching alerts cover the window after pending delete, which is the moment Cloudflare correctly says the name is simply available to whoever registers it first.

Cloudflare is excellent at the jobs it took on: cheap renewals, DNS, and brand impersonation. Watching one name you want to buy is not one of those jobs. That is the whole reason a purpose-built watch is a different product, and it is why the alert still sends you to whichever registrar or auction house is actually selling the name.

Frequently asked questions

Cloudflare has two products people mix up with a watch on a taken name. Registrar sends expiry notices for names you own. Brand Protection watches newly registered lookalikes of a brand you own. Neither watches one specific taken name for a listing, an auction, or a price change. Notify.domains does that.
No. It registers available standard names. A name in redemption has to be restored at its current registrar. A name in pending delete is not transferable and not recoverable. After deletion, anyone can register it, including you, if Cloudflare supports that TLD and the name is not premium. There is no backorder.
Not advertised. Cloudflare does not run an expired-domain auction house or a backorder product. When a name you want is heading toward a drop, Notify.domains tells you the window and which drop-catch services cover the extension. We do not place the backorder.
A Security Center feature that watches newly registered domains for typos, homoglyphs, brand concatenations, and logo matches. Alerts and the digest come with Professional plans or higher. Logo match alerts are Enterprise. Email and webhook are supported. It is for brands you own, not for acquiring a name. Abuse reports go to Cloudflare only when the other name uses Cloudflare Registrar or Cloudflare IPs. Otherwise the tool drafts a cease-and-desist letter.
No. Use Cloudflare to discover lookalikes and to start an abuse report or a letter. Use Notify.domains when you already know the name, including a variant you typed in yourself, and the question is whether that name can be bought, and where. The two answer different questions.
Yes. That is the main use case. Registry records, DNS, the website and its certificate, and public auction and marketplace listings are enough. The name does not need to use Cloudflare DNS, and it does not need to be a TLD Cloudflare sells.
Throughout the day, every day. You normally hear the same day a listing appears or a status you can act on changes. Cloudflare does not publish a scan frequency for Brand Protection, and it does not sell a check frequency for one taken name.
At watching one taken name until it is buyable, yes, because Cloudflare is not built for that and we are built for nothing else. At renewing names you own at registry cost, and at finding lookalike registrations, Cloudflare is the better tool. Use each one for its job.
$24 a year for your first domain, after a 7-day trial with no credit card. One domain on the trial. Cloudflare does not sell a watch on a name you do not own. Brand Protection alerts come with Professional plans or higher. We are not quoting those plan prices.
