Notify.domains vs Spaceship for a Taken Domain

Spaceship is a registrar with a modern domain manager, a public API, an MCP server for AI assistants, and SellerHub, a marketplace where sellers list names and buyers purchase them or make an offer. If the name you want is already listed there, Spaceship is a fine place to buy it.

If the name is taken and not listed, Spaceship does not advertise a watch. There is no Spaceship domain watchlist for that case on the pages we read. Notify.domains is that watch: listed or not, auction or marketplace, throughout the day. We notify. We do not make the offer or check out.

Which one to use

Choose Spaceship if

You want a registrar for names you own, with an API and an MCP server so your own tools can manage them, and SellerHub when you are selling or when you want to buy a name a seller has already listed.

Owned-domain alerts, expiration reminders, and redemption recovery are real. They are for your portfolio.

Choose Notify.domains if

The name is taken and unlisted, and you want to hear when it is listed anywhere, enters any auction, or starts to expire. Spaceship may be where you eventually check out. The watch is how you find out that day has come.

Spaceship and Notify.domains, feature by feature

SellerHub, the availability API, the MCP server, and owned-domain alerts were last checked on Spaceship's public pages on 26 September 2026. Confirm a seller fee on SellerHub before you list or buy.

How Notify.domains watches a taken name

1

Add the taken name

Any of the 2,205 TLDs. You do not need a Spaceship account, and the name does not need to be listed.

2

We watch it throughout the day

Registry, website, and aftermarket. 170+ attributes, including a Spaceship or Namecheap listing when one appears, and the auction houses a SellerHub search does not cover.

3

You buy on SellerHub if that is the listing

The alert names the venue and the price. You make the offer or check out at Spaceship. We do not.

What SellerHub is for

SellerHub is Spaceship's marketplace. Sellers list a name at a fixed price or open to offers. As of 26 September 2026, sellers pay 10% when a sale completes. Buyers can buy now or make an offer, message the seller, and use a checkout link the seller shares. If your name is already on SellerHub, you do not need a monitoring product to see today's price. You need one to hear about tomorrow's price, and to hear if the same name is cheaper somewhere else.

A search for a taken name that is not listed does not advertise a watch, and our August 2026 check found no third-party offer form on that result. There is no path on that page that keeps looking. That is a normal boundary for a marketplace. SellerHub sells listed names. It is not a standing search on the rest of the aftermarket.

An availability check is not a watch

Spaceship's API can tell you whether a name is available or taken, one name or in bulk. The published limit on a single check is 5 requests for that domain per 300 seconds, and 30 requests per user per 30 seconds. That is a lookup with a rate limit. A watch would be a loop you build, host, and keep running, and it would still only know available versus taken. It would not know that the name just listed on Sedo, or that it entered GoDaddy Auctions, or that the certificate on the site expired.

The MCP server is the same idea, aimed at assistants. You can connect Spaceship to Claude, Cursor, Codex, and other MCP clients to check availability, register, manage DNS, and review your portfolio. That is your Spaceship account. It is not a memory of what someone else's name did yesterday.

An assistant is good at the question you ask right now. It is a poor place to store "the Sedo price last Tuesday" or "Porkbun moved its expired names to Dynadot." How to get a domain that is already taken is the walkthrough for the human steps. The watch is the part that repeats them.

Spaceship is strong on names you own

Do not read this page as "Spaceship has no alerts." Domain Manager alerts, expiration reminders, portfolio filters, transfer notices to the old and new owner, a 7-day reactivation window after expiry, and redemption recovery from the domain list are all for names in the account. If the pain is "tell me before my own name expires," Spaceship already does that, and so do we.

The gap is the name in someone else's account. That name can list on Spaceship, on Namecheap, on GoDaddy, on Sedo, or it can expire into an auction house you do not have open. Both Spaceship and Namecheap listings show on our Marketplaces tab. We do not ask you to pick one. The venue list we watch is the census, and how the four kinds of domain monitoring differ is the wider comparison.

Spaceship does a hundred registrar jobs well. Watching one taken name across venues is the job we do. When the listing is on SellerHub, the alert sends you there to act.

Frequently asked questions

Not on the pages we read, as of 26 September 2026. SellerHub shows a listing when a seller has created one. The API checks available or taken when you call it. Neither one keeps watching an unlisted taken name and writes to you when something changes.
Spaceship's marketplace. Sellers list names at a fixed price or open to offers and, as of 26 September 2026, pay 10% on a sale. Buyers can buy now or make an offer on listed names, with messaging and a checkout link. Notify.domains watches those listings and links you to them. We do not check out.
Yes. Spaceship publishes an MCP server for Claude, Cursor, Codex, and other clients. It can check availability, register, and manage DNS for your account. That is account management. It is not a watch on a domain you hope to buy from someone else.
Yes. A Spaceship listing shows on the Marketplaces tab, along with Namecheap, GoDaddy, Sedo, Atom, and the other venues we cover. One watch. The alert names which price changed.
Yes. That is the main use case. Registry records, DNS, the website and its certificate, and public listings are enough. You do not connect a Spaceship account to us.
No. If SellerHub has the listing, you buy now or make the offer there. We tell you it exists, and we tell you if another venue is cheaper.
Throughout the day, every day. You normally hear the same day a listing appears or a status you can act on changes. Spaceship does not advertise a watch on unowned names, so there is no Spaceship frequency to compare.
At watching a taken, unlisted name, yes, because Spaceship does not advertise that product and we do only that job. At registering, renewing, and selling names you already hold, Spaceship is the registrar. Use Spaceship for the account. Use Notify.domains to hear when a name you want becomes buyable.
$24 a year for your first domain, after a 7-day trial with no credit card. One domain on the trial. Spaceship does not sell a watch on a name you do not own, so there is no Spaceship price to line up against that.
