Your Note Now Shows in Domain Alert Emails

You add a domain, type a reason in Notes, and then months pass. An instant email arrives. The subject says the domain name is pending delete, or that it listed for sale. You recognize the domain. You do not remember why it is on your list.

Instant alert emails now include the note you typed into Notify.domains when you started the domain name watch. It sits under the domain name, inside the same gray card as the event. The subject still tells you what happened. The note tells you who this is for.

What you will see

Open a domain so the Status tab is showing. Expand Notes, write a line, and save. The next instant email for that domain prints it as Your note, in smaller gray type, right under the hostname. If Notes is empty, the line does not appear.

The domain names in the sample cards below are fictitious. The card layout is the one in the email.

Why a note in the email helps

A watchlist is not one kind of name. Some are brands you would build a company around. Some are gifts. Some are favors for people you work with. A renewal is routine. The reason is not.

Reading the note in the inbox is faster than opening the dashboard to reconstruct the story. You decide in one glance whether this is a name to act on, a name to keep waiting on, or a name you are holding for someone else.

The startup you have not started

You have a product in a notebook. You have not incorporated. You have not told anyone. The right domain would be the reason to start. You put it on domain name monitoring and you wait. You are not bidding yet. You are waiting for a path to buy it, the same problem as getting a domain that is already taken.

When a listing email arrives, the note is the reminder that this is not another aftermarket name. This is the one that starts the company.

A friend’s name as a gift

A friend mentioned, offhand, that they wished they had their kid’s first and last name in the .com top-level domain. You added it that day. You are not going to bring it up again. If it ever becomes available, it is a birthday or holiday gift.

A year later the registry date moves. Without the note, it is another FYI. With the note, you still know who it is for.

A name I am watching for someone else’s kid

I monitor a lot of names. One of them is the first and last name of my GoDaddy Premier Account Manager’s kid. I am happy to do it. We have had a great working relationship for years. If that name ever becomes available, I want to know.

The note is there so a quiet renewal does not look like a name I meant to drop. It looks like a favor I meant to keep.
