Domain Monitor at domain-monitor.net says "Track expired domains and secure them first." It watches the expiry date, the registrar, nameserver changes, redemption, pending delete, and availability the moment a name drops. Pro checks hourly, with extra checks near expiry, and alerts by email and Telegram. It is aimed at investors waiting for names to drop, and at $70 a year for 100 names it is inexpensive.

The catch is the word "drop." Many names worth waiting for never get there. When they expire, the registrar sends them to auction during grace, and a bidder buys them weeks before the drop date. Its own blog points readers to NameJet, SnapNames, DropCatch, and GoDaddy Auctions for that, as other companies' services. The monitor does not watch them. Notify.domains does, along with marketplaces where owners list names before they ever expire.

Which one to use

Choose domain-monitor.net if

You track a long list of expiring names, you mostly want to know about redemption, pending delete, and the drop, and price per name matters most. Pro covers 100 names for $70 a year with hourly checks and Telegram. The free Basic plan watches 3 names daily.

Choose Notify.domains if

The names you want are the kind other people bid on. Those tend to sell at an expired-domain auction or on a marketplace before they drop. You want the auction, the listing, the price changes, and the site watched too, and the drop-catch services named when a drop does happen.

Where valuable names go before the drop

When a name expires, the registrar decides what happens next. A GoDaddy name goes to GoDaddy Auctions, a Network Solutions name to NameJet and SnapNames, a Namecheap name to Namecheap's own auction. If anyone bids, the name moves to the winner and never drops. The names nobody bought go on to pending delete.

So a monitor that waits for the drop is mostly watching the names that did not sell. For a name with real demand, the decisive moment is usually the auction, and you need to hear about it on day one. Domain auctions explained walks through how each house works.

When a name does drop

An hourly check that tells you a name is available is honest, and on a name nobody else wants it can be enough. On a name with competition, drop-catch services usually register it within seconds of the delete. By the time an hourly check fires, it is gone.

That is why we point you at a backorder rather than a race. When a name enters pending delete, we tell you the backorder window is open and which drop-catch services cover the extension, and on paid plans we estimate the drop day. Backordering at more than one drop-catch service explains why one is rarely enough.
